I currently use a VBS script that maps drives and printers based on a user group in AD.
Am currently running into a problem were lots of teachers are teaching 4+ different subjects and need access to the subjects mapped drive to access resources.
I have so far managed to juggle the drive letters in the script, but this year its getting harder without creating individual groups for the user and write a new bit of script, but this ends up getting very messy in the VB script.
Now am pretty certain I have seen on here a way to get the script map to the next available letter, but can't seem to find it.
Does know of a code which will map to another available letter, and then rename that drive.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Answering your question im not sure how to do this.

10th September 2008, 05:43 PM #3 Surely its a pain for staff to randomly need to work out which drive is their "English" drive for the day?
We have a single shared staff area K:\ which for the few departments who want it (Admin/SLT) we restrict access to it.

10th September 2008, 05:46 PM #4 Its not a major problem, just don't want to have to setup new groups just for one teacher to be a member of.
I have a folder on a server with staff subject resources in setup like \\server\staff\Art , \\server\staff\Maths etc, so on script instead of each group mapping to the root of the share, they map straight to the Maths section for example, and then the script renames that drive "Maths Shared Area".

This would hopefully only be for a few odd teachers, so 90% have their one English area (T:\ drive here) which would stay T:\ for example
But problem is am getting a few teachers who teach 4 or 5 different subjects, and therefore can't have 5 T:\ drives. All teachers know their faculty drive is T:\ so its just something I wanted to sort out for the teachers who teach Technology mostly, but do one Science and Art lesson for some unknown reason, so need access to their shared areas as well.
