My LEA has a link to here www.icer.org.uk
Good site for finding aproved recyclers in your area. Also has links to relevent UK LEGISLATION.
Just stick all unwanted equipment in a room, leave door open over lunch time, then when you come back all has disposed of itself.
Don't think this method will work if your school has respectable students, but in our school I am sure a rule in the school hand book says...
If it ain't nailed down, a sixth former will pinch it.
I am trying to find out what to do with all those power leads with either American or Continental plugs.
Strip out the copper. It is worth £1400 a tonne. I have just got £5 for a couple of taps and 10' of 15mm pipe! (And £40 for lead pipe which made the trip worthwhile!)
Ebay is your friend for some things.
We ebayed about 200 or some silly number of SATA leads, a tonne of IDE leads and also a joblot of IEC power leads ("kettle leads").
We also had some spare stuff like camera batteries etc that we were never going to use.
ITWombat, i'd suggest e-bay...someone'll want them!
We /did/ have one of the old RM System base servers that ran NT4 along with an old RM proxy server running NT4 also, and if i remember correctly the old RM CC2.5 server.
The LEA came and took them away for us :)
Aggree with Joedetic
Currently ebaying 16 old RM Desktops (Celeron 450Mhz) and monitors etc. Currently have 35 people watching it :D So hopinf for a nice last minute bidding frenzy :D
Well, I leave it in the corridor and watch it dissapear nicely or the best one is the skip is your friend esp. when no1 checks the current laws lol
The site manager would have been on our case if we'd stuck 25 RM CRTs in the skips/bins about the site!
I think someone came to recycle those.
Give Them To the Staff, With a Nice Disclosure saying that the school takes no responsibity for them. Even the kids especially lower school, they will go crazy for them
Find all the geeks out and ask them if they want some 15" CRTs to use alongside their 19" TFT LCD quad-head graphics rig at home.
It might work *dreams* LOL
I have a charity group that take all my IT kit, power leads, spare parts etc.... very good. Based in Hull, great group.
Waste Online Uk is a good site which ocevers the legalities and has the names of organisations which be able help you dispose of your redundant IT equipment.
Just get staff to bring a bit home every now and again and let them put it in there bin or take them down to the tip.
