Has any one had to create a Data storage policy? I have written one but wanted to know if any one has been asked. Eg how long do you store left users (staff , Students) documents and general stored information as this has been getting out of control to backup correctly. Have included all the standard one regarding finance and SDU. As being an independent school we have not be given or told what is best.

Not had the need to as we have never had storage problems but on thinking it might be a good idea, any chance you could post yours up here for everyone to use (cheeky I know but effective hopefully)

Type Retention Period Action at the end of the administrative life of the record
Staff Personal Documents Current year +6 Years Shred / Delete
Finance Annual Accounts Current year +6 Years Offer to Archives
Personal Files Current year +6 Years Shred
Students
Type Retention Period Action at the end of the administrative life of the record
Personal Documents Current year +6 Years Shred / Delete
Pupils Date of last entry + 6 Years Place in Archives
Sdu Dob of the pupil +25 years Shred
We are looking at keeping the users home folder data for 6 years which very quickly mounts up to a lot of data.
