Hi i was just wondering how you induct your new year 7's onto the network every september as here we do nothing and the past 2 years that i have been here we have had 6 AUP policys back!!!! No next year im going to put my foot down
no AUP no logon! Another school in my area apparantly make all the new year 7's set an exam of sorts before they are given their logon details! - thats a bit extreme in my opinion.
Cheers
Dan

Re: New Year 7 Induction
We give them the month of September as a grace period. All accounts are setup with an expiry date of the 1st of October. When we receive the aup we remove the expiry date.

Re: New Year 7 Induction
we give them an AUP for to take home for the parent to sign. they get there username and password straight away. their then given 2-3 weeks to return the forms. any out standing forms we start with cutting the net and email access, and then the account.
I think thats a fair way to treat them.

We give out AUP in tutor groups and issue warning that accounts will be disabled in 3 weeks. This is under extreme supervision.
User details are given out in IT lessons together with an explanation of rules and how things work etc..
We're thinking of getting AUPs out ASAP via letter to prospective students before they start in September - still investigating that one.

We too go along the road of no AUP - No login. However certain management members feel it is there right to over rule this and often call in to overrule us in front of the new students. This sept is gonna be different though.
They just do not realise that they are potentially putting students at risk from the internet etc and their own network infrastructure by not having a policy in place which they can fall back on in the event of the AUP rules being broken etc.
NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: New Year 7 Induction
I Just set up the accounts with an exchange e-mail account and disabled the e-mail in AD. They have a pop up that appears on the screen when they log in telling them by clicking ok they have read and agreed to the schools computer policy.
When the policy comes back signed from the parent then I enable the e-mail for them. As the Web is filtered by our council services, there should be no reason that they come across and restricted or porn based sites. Web mails are also not available for them.
We are having an induction day for the little people in a week or 2 so they have to have a log in for this.
