does anyone know of official advice/guidelines regarding putting images of students on our school website. As usual the BECTA site is useless.
Thanks!

I think the parents have to sign a consent form at some point but dont quote me on that. Or send a letter out saying that if you dont want your kids to appear on the school website sign here. that would be a little easier on the admin burden.

that's a better bet. the use of pupil images also applies to brochures and anywhere they could be put into the public domain.Originally Posted by ChrisH

as it stands have two options like chris says first send out a blanket letter saying unless contacted images of children at schools may appear in publicity such as website, prospectus etc
or can do it on indervial basis
but most important not matter what media you are not allowed to put name of child next to photo

The main thing to know is that names and pictures should never appear together - Images can be used as long as the child cannot be identified.
Unless there are extraordinary reasons, for example one student has sailed round the world and you want to publish press cuttings etc.. then obviously get written permission from the parents first...
as said above, the easiest way is to say 'unless we hear from you (parents) we will assume it is okay to publish pictures'...
