Now I’m all for punishment but what one teacher requests another un-requests for example, jonny was in ICT lesson and played games all lesson please ban for 1 week, Same day request from business "please unban jonny as its stopping him for doing his course work".....Ahhhh what do others do.

Also are there any rules about removing teaching aids from the students e.g. banning them from the internet.
If you have a user policy then you should enforce it. then if you do need to ban jonny and a teacher says he needs access to internet etc, tell them he is banned and the reason why.

we have a ban list here on our intranet. It has a list of people in year order, saying they are banned for this reason, and how long for.

You shouldnt ban students from ICT for a classroom discpline issue (such as playing games etc) - but only for actual *abuses* of the system..

So what is to stop them playing games then? In an ideal world teachers would not be useless, it's not an ideal world though.

I agree they should be disaplined for abuse and not for playing games which is why we use proper classroom monitoring software to stop them from going of track.

Re: To Ban Or Not To Ban this is the question

We use Lanschool for classroom management and Spector to monitor and teachers still have no clue what goes on in the classroom, and any teacher who says they do is just a plain liar.

With monitoring software someone has to actually monitor it and teachers do not do that.

we use viglen remote learning tutor here. I keep an eye on what game sites are been access way to often, and then update the internet ban list for remote learning tutor. so when the staff open it, they then activate that ban profile.

It works really well for the staff and because of that they keep me informed often as possible of any problems.

I try not to go as far as banning games on the cachepilot, because we have computer clubs on during lunch time, and after school.

    @Disease

is classroom management and spector 2 completely seperate bits of software?

if so do you think the staff find it a little difficult to work it?

We use a three strikes and you're out policy and enforce it. We use Lanschool to monitor the whole site, even though teachers have access in each classroom. There's nothing more satisfying than remotely watching a student playing games in background and switching to a document titled doc1 and waiting until the end of the period and rebooting the pc. Do it again.

Lanschool is there FOR the teachers to use you have to be an idiot not to be able to use it, in which case you should not be a teacher anyway.

Spector is recording software and is not used by teachers and is used by me and my team.

what so you restart the document before the kid saves the work, so they have to do it again?

Re: To Ban Or Not To Ban this is the question

You are missing the point MrHappy, the Doc_1 as blackcat put it has no work in it or very little as the kid is using it to mask the games playing.

    Kid plays game
    Teacher walks towards pupil
Kid switches to the word doc
    Teacher walks past
Kid goes back to playing games.

The doc file is there because the kids has no intention of doing any work, and this set of events is the same in all schools across the UK (apart from private schools)
