Can anyone recommend a laptop that i can use for diagnostic purposes?
I have an old Dell im using at the moment, but wouldnt mind something different.
I know why you've marked the serial port in bold. Most laptops these days don't have one. How about a USB to Serial adapter, would that work?
Because it could have gotten lost by people quickly reading the post. Thought it best to highlight as its a key point for me.

Our D505/D510's do have serial ports.
Im currently doing it all of a battered old D510 myself, but wouldnt mind something with a bit of grunt behind it. :p.
You really will struggle finding a serial port... even Thinkpads don't bother with legacy ports now. I just leave my converter permanently attached to a serial cable.
