Does anyone use bulk text message services in school? We're considering one (when I say "we" I mean an organisation outside of school, so personal not professional interest here), but I have no idea how easy they are to use - ideally by several people in disparate locations - and how much they cost.
Any basic overview stuff which people could share would be really useful.

I used to use one for a football club I ran. Called e-txt by Dynamark I think.
Easy to use software, try that.

Thanks Kerry (its actually Dynmark, for reference).
It actually seems to work out cheaper than sending the messages off my phone the "old fashioned way", so even if we don't get it for the organisation, I might get it for myself :-)

We used to use Group Mail - but it was not that good in querying the SERCO database and pull off say forms, cricket teams etc. All it would get would be a complete listing, groups after that would have to be made yourself.
www.groupcall.co.uk
We now use BulkSMS which is better at querying the database:

Hi Nick
Are you messages for attendance and/or behaviour messaging... we work alongside a company called www.textanywhere.com which some of our schools use. 15% discount for education and there support and account manager has not let us down. Textanywhere is a SMS provider and you dont need our software to use it and if you do use our software then there is a communication link allowing all SMS history to be tracked

@jenny:urey:
It's blocked by our LEA ISP DOH!

Thats a pain! Would be good if your LEA could sort that out with their ISP as it can reduce truancy and help punctuality if you are using it for attendance. Its also very costs efective particulary when you start comparing the cost of a text with the price of a stamp/envelope/paper/ink....

www.textanywhere.com is a cybersquatting/holding page. Did you mean www.textanywhere.co.uk?
