6th September 2010, 02:19 PM #1 Companies for installing smartboard/projector
Just had a classroom refurbished and they wish for the sb/proj installation to be refitted (different part of the room). Previously we used a boom for the projector as the roof is just suspended ceiling below what resembles corrugated iron.
Now, they want it done properly from the ceiling and not on the boom, but we don't fancy it as there is no proper support on the ceiling (a few beams but not much) so will need doing professionally. Any recommendations for companies that'll do this? In the past we have bought several smartboards and projectors in one go and got the supplying company to organise installation.

ANother option might be a short throw projector. They still use a boom, but it's much shorter. We've got a Hitachi A100 projecting onto a 78" IWB, I don't think it even sticks out 2' from the wall.

7th September 2010, 02:13 PM #9 As we already have the equipment and limited funding remaining from the classroom refurbishment, we'd be looking to use the existing hardware (except of course for the boom). Had a bit of interest so hopefully something can be managed with the awkward roof setup!

How old is the projector?
Bare in mind that projector throw distances are not standarised, some projectors can be very easily replaced with more modern models, others can't. If it's an old projector that might need replacing in a year then you might end up paying to have the ceiling mount refitting when you replace the projector.
It might be cheaper to replace the projector now. I doubt you'll get a company to do the install less the £300, you don't want to be forking that out again along with the cost of a new projector in a years time.

9th September 2010, 11:24 AM #11 It's an Epson EMP-S3. We always replace with Epson projectors when we buy new ones. I think most modern projectors can zoom in/out as well as focus so i'd imagine any changes in the future could be accomodated by the ability to zoom as required. At least, where we have already replaced some projectors in some rooms, we haven't yet needed to remount where it is situated. Though thanks for raising that point - if the projector was old it may have been something we'd have overlooked still!
