NEC
We have had nearly 70 NEC VL5 machines installed at school. just over half were bought to replace very old teachers machines. The spec was slightly modified for the teachers DVD burners and 512 MB of ram but not one has failed yet. The great thing with these is they come with Y power cables. So 1 plug power for PC and Monitor. These worked out cheaper then going to dell. All PCs come with onsite warrenty and are AMD XP 2600 machines.
Fantastic Deal if you ask me. Would go back providing they at the right price again next time.

I've heard good things about NEC machines. Its a shame they are dull as custard.

But are they any duller than other machines i.e Dell's I think the black NEC's with the silver accents look better than a Dell.
When you have a room full they look the business.

As of last week, I too have a room full. As they're under the desks thay don't look much different, but the TFT monitors on VESA arms make the room look so much bigger. They also free up desk space for exam scripts, as such they were essential.

They are good on warranty and support if you ring them but never never email them. Last time I did it was handled from a centre in the netherlands and time taken to get back to me was attrouchous and then as they couldn't solve it due to it being a hardware issue I was told to ring up. They even replied to one email in dutch.
Thanks,
Ben

Always has been! Principal use is as a language lab, therefor used for the A level listening comp exams. Trust me, there is NOTHING duller than invidulating exams! 8O

Re: NEC
There call centres are in the Netherlands too. As it is a dutch company. Its just like dealing with maxtor in Ireland.
Call reference is just the serial number of the PC. No random pieces of paper flying around with reference numbers. Brilliant Idea
No problems here.

No experience of NEC PC's however we use a lot of their projectors here. Had one break in 2.5years. They swapped it straight out next day. No hassle at all.
Sahara OTOH...

We have what is technically known as a shitload of NEC PCs here. They have been fantastic. The black VL350s in the micro desktop cases look brilliant and the support we've had from them so far has been very good too. We used to use Stone PCs (and were actually very happy with them) but we switched to NEC after Stone buggered us about on a AV install and so far we haven't looked back.
