ZH: Bit confused by your statement mate. I put in an order for x amount of licences at y price and when the invoice comes in if it wasn't x times y then the business manager would have a fit.

    Re: Microsoft School Licence Agreements

Yeh thats how its supposed to work. But ramesys sent the wrong info to MS it appears so we were under-licensed for stuff badly. They also seemed to know nothing about MS licensing in general.
We should be able to say "we want to have this many users access things like TS, how much will it cost? they will being running x ms apps" and they go well you need x, y and z licenses in these numbers. But they came back with wrong info in the TS case and we were under-licensed.

Ahh ok makes more sense to me now.

I've never had to deal with things like TS licences jsut pure o/s and apps ones and they've always been great.

Actually not true. We've been working with MS on the SSAT Partner Program and after the 4 years are up they turn into perpetual licenses. That means they freeze at the current version (whatever that may be). The school then has the option of taking out a new school agreement with software assurance... or not.

Either way it's still a bonza deal.

Can't you set up a supplier to supply select licencees and then have access to the direct download or am I missing the point here?!?

My understanding of the licensing is that you get access to a licensing site with your VLK's in it. The media is shipped to you seperately, but you can download from your site.

I will have to check with our in house Licensing Specialist. (yes we sell the stuff - well actually we sell at 1% so you never know - we may be cheaper...)

will let you know what he says.

    Re: Microsoft School Licence Agreements

Once again I delve into the murky depths of the licensing of Microsoft products under Select Agreements.

Just to let people know ... Ramesys do monitor these forums ... and do their best to check that any gripes people have are followed up but they do say that if you have any issues you should contact them directly. Likewise Microsoft have a team that deal with Edu Licensing that will give you information. Under no circumstances contact anyone in Microsoft about licensing other than the edu team as you will get different information each time you ring.

There are a few different agreements that Ramesys do ... some are just for Microsoft Partner Schools and they do indeed tend to have their own download site ... but for the bulk of us under the general SSAT Select Agreement there is no download site as Microsoft only provide limited access ... and if those access details were given out to all of the involved schools then you would be able to access *everything* that is available to buy under the Select Agreement irregardless of whether you paid for it or not ... making the control of licences almost impossible. Instead the Ramesys folks send the media out ... and where possible they do it free of charge depending on how many licences you have purchased.

Those poeple with seperate Volume Licences agreements from other suppliers or directly with Microsoft are likely to have their own download access. To do this for each school using the SSAT Select Agreement would add additional cost onto the licences and the general feeling I got from the Ramesys folks was that they thought people would prefer to save the money and just wait for the media ...

If you are a long suffering purchaser from Ramesys and you want someone to speak to direcctly feel free to PM me and I will pass you on some details.

Software licensing is a mine field and if you are ever in doubt about what to do about infringements or exceeding licenses then put it on paper and give to your head and / or Chair of Governors ... because unles you have signed to say you are ultimately responsible theay are the people that will be fined ... and it can get nasty.
