Hi,
We're using ActiveInspire 1.4.2 and some of our staff have found they can't open some of their .flp files created in 1.2 and older. A number of them have spent time over the summer creating resources and are not happy bunnies at the prospect of re-creating their files.
Error is "Unable to open [path].flp"
Any help or suggestions would be appricaited.
Tom.
Hi Tom,
The files that your teachers are editing are ".flp" which is the file extention for our older software ActivStudio/Primary. Any ".flp" files created in the latest version of this software (v3.7.19) should open fine in ActivInspire but if your teachers are developing in an earlier version of ActivStudio/Primary (say v1 or v2) then they may run into problems when opening them in ActivInpire - the trick is to resave them in V3.7.19 before opening them in ActivInspire.
If you can upload one of the flipcharts that you are having an issue with I can take a look and hopefully advise further.
As you probably know ActivStudio/Primary was replaced by ActivInspire, ActivInspire creates ".flipchart" files so really going forward your teachers should be encouraged to develop their flipcharts in ActivInspire whilst at home.

Thanks for a quick reply.
I will upload tomorrow morning as I am somewhat frazzled after one hetic day.
Also, are we covered to give teachers ActiveInspire for installtion on their personal laptops? We had a school's worth of promethean boards installed over the summer (BSF project) so I dare say we have plenty of licenses.
Hi Tom,
This is taken from our EULA...
3.1 Single User: Promethean will furnish one copy of the Software for use by You in accordance with the terms of this Licence on a single computer. The Software will not be used on or transferred to another computer except that the Software may be transferred to an alternate computer if the original computer is not working. Installation of the Software for use in preparatory work only, on one other computer is permitted You will not sub-licence, lend, lease, rent or transfer or otherwise make the Software available to any third party without the prior written consent of Promethean.
So in answer to your question, it is fine for your teachers to install the Professional edition on another computer that will be used for preparation.
Thanks for both of that. Appparently the problem was something to do with permissions and nothing to do with backwards compatabilty whatsoever. Thanks.
