    Portable Mifare Registration System

    Hi,

Our students all have mifare cards which they use with a Paxton door entry system, Eclipse.net and PCounter.

We'd like to take a load of them out on a school trip and allow them to go off on their own for the day. Does anyone know of a portable device that would allow them to scan out as they leave, then scan back in when they come back? Maybe write the times to Excel or something? Or just keep a log of who isn't back yet? I'm thinking just a portable card reader attached to a laptop with Excel running on it.

    Thanks.

Thanks Ben, I have sent them an email to check it will do what we need. Might be a bit overkill for what we want though.

We use the Onyx system from Telepen that does what you want - if you speak to Kevin there he should be able to help you out.

Paxton has a time sheet module which you might be able to bend into shape to achieve this goal.

Thanks guys I've contacted Telepen too to check their options out.

I've had a play with the Paxton stuff, but unfortunately to do what we want we'd need to buy another licence for the software to sit on the laptop, a door controller plus a couple of door readers, one for the students leaving, and one for the students returning.

Far too expensive and cumbersome for what we want. The Paxton chap himself suggested pen and paper was the best way of doing it. That would be far too much effort for our teachers.

Sometimes the old ways are the best ways.

To be honest though it's for a day? Those members of staff are responsible for those children.
