Hi all,
The school I work for is looking to increase its laptop count in the Post 16 centre we have.
I have given them the options of either going cheap with wireless access points moving around with the laptop trolleys or go more expensive and have the whole building covered with a managed wireless system. I have recommended the more expensive option - as they have already had me go the cheap route in the main school and its rubbish and unreliable to say the least!
Would it be possible for any companies who deal with managed wireless systems to quote me for such a setup. If you would like to pop in to do a site survey etc please let me know.
This is early pricing research to give them an idea of costs but if they do go for the managed wireless option they would want the system fully operational by september at the latest.

3rd June 2009, 10:54 AM #2 ideally you would want a ruckus or a xirrus framework in your building, both are reliable, and effective at handling multiple users and over a wider area, however they both are not cheap.

16th June 2009, 05:07 PM #8 I have basically been working on the same thing, and thought a managed solution was priced out of the reach of the school.
I was thinking I was going to have to come up with an inhouse designed solution. But some calls to suppliers showed that it wasnt too much and was at least an option.
I wish to thank Mark Power and CPLTD for both being really helpful and supplying quotes.
I am sure you will find its not as bad as you thought, and encourage you to shop around for the best prices. Joe at CPLTD was the best quote I got, at was a like for like quote, and wish to thank him for his time and patience in providing it along with the laptops we ordered.
All in all we managed to save quite a bit of money, and look forward to setting it all up.
