For anyone that is interested in Martial arts, I study 3 martial arts (Ju Jitsu, Aikido and Tang Soo Do).
Whilst I only hold an Orange with green tag belt in tang soo do, I hold a black belt 3rd dan in both Aikido and Ju Jitsu. Having studied both japanese for a total of 18 years now (started both when I was 6), I am happy to say that I am ready for the next step in both.
After 4 years as a 3rd dan in Ju Jitsu, I shall be taking my masters test (behind closed doors) and going for my 4th dan at the end of next month. If successful, my pocket shall be £500 lighter, but I shall be so much more prouder to officially be a master of the art.
And after 6 years as a 3rd dan in aikido (I neglected my studies for 2 years of it) I shall be going for my 4th dan in February. they may seem a little while off, but I am just too excited as I found out today!
Wish me luck!![]()

Good look buddy. That's quite some achievement.
Wish i had the time and dedication to do stuff like that. I'm a Kung Fu fan, though Karate Kid was disappointing for me.
What does the test involve? I remember a Judo friend saying for black belt he had to fight and defeat 3 opponents one after the other. Is it just fighting tests or other skills also?
Ju jitsu, for my 3rd dan I had to take on 5 people, literally one after the other, and had to make them submit. I am essentially doing the same again,, but more people.
There is also a written test, an oral test in Japanese, as well as doing all moves I should know.
Aikido is pretty much the same but all opponents attack at once, and I have to survive for around 5-10 minutes. As well as above, written test, oral test in japanese etc.
I am well prepared and have been studying my Japanese just for good measures!![]()
well done mate, i studied, tia kwondo, dont know how its spelt and to be honest i got really bored then went into boxing,,,, if i had only stuck at boxing i could be writing a statment like this. really please for you mate, keep me posted on the progress that your making.![]()

good luck fella
i have to sjay that you look like James Corden tho![]()
ko ni chi wa nephilim,
domo origato for the info,
sounds well tough.
do you ever have to do any blind fighting?
I have done blind fighting in the sense that I was blind folded, and had 2 attackers, and had to subdue both whilst blindfolded. I did it, but it was tough as I was not able to see them, and could only do it when I either heard their uniform making the sounds of movement or when they attempted to grab me. I had one with an arm bar and the other with a shoulder lock (much like a chicken wing manouver behind the back) on the floor, and this is whilst blindfolded. It took me 90 seconds to get them both to tap out whilst blindfolded. Great fun!
Oh and you are welcome for the info!![]()
I saw similar where there was a stream of attackers to a blindfolder kung fu master, as soon as they made contact that was it. But the attackers were much lower down the scale than the master so it was easier.
Hong Kong Nephilim you are young but you will learn, the question i guess is can you catch fly in chop stick yet!!! lol
Generally when going for a Dan grade, you fight the next grade up to show you are on the same/similar level to them.
I am more nervous about going for a gradings for my Tang Soo Do then I am for Aikido or Ju Jitsu, as I am still learning alot.
I can if I chose to now (we are licenced to teach at 2nd Dan - and this is applicable to almost all Japanese arts), however, I am quite content at being the senior student of the class as it gives me more time to practice. If I am asked to teach (as I have been called upon to do so when my master is ill / unavailable) then of course I will oblige. I would love to set up an edugeek training session! lmao
