Can they not think of something new? Kinda sick of TV companies constantly rehashing old shows.

    I want *new* sci-fi!

Stargate would be better as a movie franchise alone now I reckon. They've done all that can as a TV series.

I want something completely new. Our more Firefly...

Wish they'd bring Star Trek back - in the new timeline / reboot format!

    Nooo.....

Firefly is the "Faulty Towers" of Sci-Fi, a bit like the orginal Battlestar Galagtica. They are soo, good and soo memerable because of their short runs. If Firefly had made it past 3 seasons (ok didn't get past 1) it would have quickly turned into another TNG/DS9/SG1 clone.

Maybe a short one off mini series would do?

As for Heroes - Yeah, wouldn't mind giving a new series a go. I actually enjoyed it the first time round.

    Interesting... I liked Heroes.

It got a bit silly towards the end, but I think that was due the the writer's strike forcing them into a corner story-wise.

I did enjoy the cheerleader, but like Lost it got dragged out far too much.

If its anything like the awful tomorrow People that's just come out run for the hills

How they originally planned for the Heroes Season 2 story arc before the writers strike was far better than what they ended up doing. It's all storyboarded out on the special features of the S2 DVD.

If they go that kind of route I'll be happy, as I think Heroes never actually reached it's potential.

Regarding other shows, I would like to see more Firefly (Joss is such a good writer that it would be fine for a few seasons). A new Trek could be interesting, there's currently a kickstarter project in post production, for a new pilot episode, featuring a few old cast members.

There's no good scifi right now though. The Battlestar remake was the last truly great piece of space drama, it's all been pretty quiet since.

What I never understood is why Hollywood (and whever the TV Co's are based) insist on the constant remakes and "remimagings"?

There must be 100's, if not 1000's, of quality original Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels out there that could be adapted. Look at Game of Thrones and Walking Dead for instance.

Problem with SciFi/Fantasy is that it costs a whole lot more to produce than your standard drama. Everything needs creating from the ground up unlike your typical crime drama where you could just pop to the shops for costumes and get a lot of fake blood.

So if you're investing in such a show you want it to be a Game of Thrones / Battlestar Galactice 2003, and not Heroes (season 3/3) or SGU (no viewers). Or you'll never get your money back.

    Edit:

Also most fantasy novels and series have an awesome scope spread acorss several books. It takes balls to back something for such a long period. I think That the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan would make a fantastic fantasy TV series, but you'd find it hard to get a studio to back a series to cover all 14 books IMO.

And yet it's interesting to see the number of series that get prematurely cancelled due to poor US ratings (often down to very bad scheduling) only to go and do well in syndicate, international and DVD markets.

It'd be interesting to see if the success of Netflix's House of Cards has any impact on this immediate results mentality.
