Office 2007 (Beta 2)

Just downloaded & installed this - anyone else had a play with it yet?

just opened Word and wont "Oh My God" at the new layout

Just getting it now, I've had the Beta1 running for some time, is there much difference?

I dont know cos i never ran Beta 1 :P

I to have been playing with beta 1 for a while, but not tried beta 2 yet. But yes the interface is like "WOW". It makes Office 2003 look so dated.

Did you get it from MSDN?

No signed up for to be a Beta Tester - trying to convince the school to spend money for either MSDN or technet

I'm curious as to why it won't find an Internet connection to Activiate...

The activation servers are probably overloaded :P

Hate it. Sure its simpler, but the teachers will all need retraining.

Cheaper and easier to give them OpenOffice instead I think.

Ahh right, I'll forget it for now then.

Something that's gone and I wish it hadn't is in the earlier version I had, when you typed in Word and then moved the mouse a tooltip type box came by the text with common formatting actions. That seems to have gone :o(

Also, the Instant Search in Outlook just worked before but for some reason now to use it I have to download Desktop Search. Which I don't want.

But, it makes me think, are any schools actually going to buy it or for that matter need it?
We still use Office XP, which is fine for our needs. The pupils don't need anything more complicated. To be honest, we could probably get by on Office 97! :-k

OpenOffice and Office 97 are probably equivelent feature wise.

If you do go for Office 2007 you will have to upgrade everything as the file format has changed.
