Open Office 3.0 HELP
Following on from a post here regarding moving away from MS Office we have decided to give Open Office a go for the curriculum workstations.
I have downloaded the latest version installed it on a workstation shown it to a couple of teachers who are happy enough for the move to take place but i can't get the bloody software to behave.
Have managed to disable the first time user registration but I can't setup the package so that Open Office is forced to save using MS files types for all users.
We use Ranger here and I thought I could create a Ranger Package to force the settings but that hasn't worked.
Has anybody else overcome this issue, are there ADM files available for Open Office 3.0. Have looked on the web for possible ADM files but can't find any for the latest version.
Any help would be much appreciated.

We use mandatory profiles so, in OpenOffice, I'd go to Tools > Options > Load/Save > General and set your saving preferences at the bottom. If this is done in the profile then it should be set for all who log on. I've done it in a test scenario and it seems to have worked.

We also use mandatory profiles, but I'd advise against default saving to Microsoft formats by default. Instead, install the ODF compatibility pack on any clients that need MSOffice.

You might like to look at Open Office Technology | Group Policy and registry-based management for OpenOffice - they have loads of adm templates for OpenOffice, but there is a cost. We pay around £200 a year and for that we get to control in fine detail the operation of Open Office. It also makes it easy to roll out updates.

its actually better to have it save as an ODF file, and sell copies of Open Office to the children for 20p or something (cover the cost of a CD), so they can install it at home. There wont be any problems then.
Works fine for us, we make no profit on the discs as the money goes straight back into buying more.

We use a batch file that does all of that. I can PM it to you if you like!

Clarky i'd be interested in this batch file we're just starting to deploy OO around site and these are the obvious problems we'll get.
