Thumbs down Office 2010 keeps reconfiguring

    Hi.

We installed Office 2010 throughout the school during the Summer holidays. However, when a user opens any of the office software it wants to reconfigure - this can take quite a long time on the older computers. There are a lot of people with similar problems out there but (suprise suprise) Microsoft doesn't seem to have a complete fix for it. We have tried several methods to resolve it, including registry cleaning, uninstallation of previous Office versions, fresh Ghost images, installing Office 2010 as a local admin, etc. etc.

It is so frustrating! Sometimes Office will not reconfigure itself for days so when we think we've resolved the problem it suddenly comes back.

    Has anyone encountered similar problems?

    Thanks.

We had a problem with this but only seemed to happen with Word. To fix it we dropped a regedit into the mandatory profile. Shown below -

    From the Run box -
    reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Options /v NoReReg /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Or as i said add it to manatory profile if you use one.

I would suggest you test this on a test machine before roll out and I hold no responsibility for how you use it.

I found this by doing alot of google searching for a couple of days and it was hidden in some forum which I can't recall at the moment. Hope this fixes the issues you are having. Also on a side note if you have both 2003 and 2010 installed just replace the 14.0 with the version number so for 2003 it is 11.0 it stops it reconfiguring if other versions are opened as well.

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew.

Thanks for this - I have seen this fix somewhere before and I couldnt figure out how to add it to the mandatory profile. How did you do it?

I've also seen a fix for editing permissions/ownership on the .msg registry key.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

You can do this one of two ways, which is down to preferance. You can manually do this by editing the user.man using regedit, just import it in and add the DWORD to the profile or you can do it via GPO under preferances.
