restore from backup???
No I have a student who brought their laptop to me containing the Word 2003 Document, when you open it you get a load of 'gobledy gook'. Tried opening the file on another machine using Word 2003 and it opens the same, so I am assuming the file is corrupted, is there anyway of recovering it.Originally Posted by StewartKnight
I have 'googled' for "Word Recovery" and tried a few shareware programs but to no avail, do you know of any tools that might help?

Hopefully that helps![]()
Sure it is a word document and version of word was used to create it?
I find the most reliable way to fix broken office documents is to open and resave them in OpenOffice. It seems to do a better job of reading corrupt files.
I sometimes do that, Totally forgot about that
Yeah, OpenOffice has always worked for me in the past.
I find it funny that OpenOffice has better recovery of Word Documents, than Microsoft Word itself...![]()
First thing I would try is the fix tool in Word. File-Open then select the file you want and next to the open button at the bottom is an arrow, click it to get the drop down menu and click on open and fix/repair. Usually does it for me![]()
Hi,
In the past,, i've opened it up in notepad and re saved it.
