I have a PC in the school that is unable to send files that are attached via outlook.
I have tried several times to resolve the issue but it keeps coming back. I have uninstalled and re installed, restored back to a previous date, re installed windows and started from scratch, and did a complete system restore using the system disk, and still no joy.
We do not use an exchange server (when we did we had this problem all the time and taking it out resolved the issue), so basically it just sends and recieves from the county webmail system, but still having no joy.
If anyone can give me any help that would be brilliant.
Thanks
Carl

So just to clarify, you can send and recieve e-mail, but if you attach a file and try to send it, it gets rejected?
If that's the case file attachment size maybe an issue and many schools have security in place to prevent attachments of more common extensions (such as .zip, .doc, .scr etc) to prevent the spread of viruses.

As Michael said the attachment size is usually the main culprit.
- Try sending a really small .txt document
- Try zipping what is to be sent
I believe that M$ prevent certain file suffices from being sent (e.g. .exe) in case they have a virus payload - zip will get round that too.
Is this problem user or PC specific? Can another user on this PC send emails?

i have sent jpgs, zip folders, word documents, none of which go through. without the attachments the emails go through fine, no problem what so ever, but with the attachments they say they get sent, but don't get through the other end.
its baffling.

Another thought. Check your AV!
I remember having problems in the past where the AV was stopping emails with attachments going out!![]()

Possibly AV software as elsiegee40 says, but more likely filtering. It sounds as though the e-mail is being sent and appears in your Sent Items, but isn't being received the other end.
I would contact your ISP or LA (whoever provides your internet/filtering) and they should be able to give you some answers.

Just got off the phone to the LA, and they said the account was not properly set up, so its been fixed. However I did nothing out of the ordinary when I set it up so I think they have been fiddling with settings without letting me know.![]()
