We have moved our users to Office 2007 and we have lots of users who have this
issue. When opening an excel file, the file does not open. Excel will seem
to open but instead of seeing the spreadsheet you see a pale blue screen and
the ribbon is grayed out. If you click on the restore down button then the spreadsheet will appear. Or if you right click and calculate now it comes up. If you open Excelk first and the go file open its fine. Only a problem if double click on a excel file.

22nd September 2008, 03:54 PM #2 Are the Excel spreadsheets from 2003? as 2007 will cause this to happen first time they are opened directly from the file.
After you have opened them from inside 2007 application using file>open file etc will they then open directly from the file by double left clicking or is the same fault occuring?
You may have to instruct all users to re-save their docs in 2007 format.

In case anyone else gets this problem here is a couple of fixes
Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double
clicking on
the file in windows explorer:
Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)
--- or ---
Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver
The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.
