Fix: Office2007 (Publisher) Lock up
Had this one with Publisher 2007 and it's been driving me slightly potty for the last 3 months...
Start up Publisher 2007 using the shortcut (ie: not by opening an existing document) and the Publisher program window goes blank. In some cases (like mine) it also locks up explorer and you can't CTRL+ALT+DEL to task manager to kill it. (Good ole' Microsoft fubaring their own OS!).
Note: This also happens if you open Publisher by opening it through a specific *.pub document but then try File > New.
It seems that usually this indicates that the default printer for your PC is not configured properly, ie: corrupt driver, unavailable or something. In my case it's a K5400 which works just fine but Publisher doesn't like it.
Select a different printer as the default before you start up Publisher.
For good measure I deleted inactive printers and cleared the recently open files list in registry too.

Tried applying Office 2007 SP1?

That's already applied...

Thanks for the tip
I've actually had the same problem with a couple of my users. I've just been putting 2003 publisher back on their computer just to get by for the time being.
The funny part is that it didn't start happening until SP1 was applied, actually. Another Service Pack that breaks things instead of fixing them I guess.
