When you want to convert Pages 09 files, change the .pages extension to .zip Click on the zip file and this will unpack a folder that has the same name as the zip file, inside that folder will be a folder called quick look which will contain a preview.pdf and a thumbnail.jpg. The preview.pdf is a pdf of the content. You can cut and paste the copy from here into a word file or a text file, although you may have to reformat (i.e., delete paragraph marks at end of each line) to make it more reader friendly.

Only any good if you have access to Pages. Most of us won't.

Your info is quite a help because I have bveen trying to find a way to create actual .pages template files that are recognized as actual pages templates. I am working with a jailbroken iPad so I can get to the file system and have a look around.
My question is, how would I create my own templates? I want actual templates that are displayed when I select new document; not simple documents to be used/reused as templates. Hope that is clear.
Are there tutorials on the web that you (or anyone here) can point me towards?

The easiest way i know is to use zamzar.com it is a free online file converter which can convert from/to just about any file format. you upload the file, tell them what to make it into, and give them an email address to send the link to the converted file. conversions usually take less than a minute (longer for large files), and can be downloaded for three days after conversion. Quick and easy... I like that.
