ghost boot over PXE help please...

after reading up a considerable amount on this I am still unable to boot into ghostcast via NIC....

The server I am using has windows xp pro installed so no RIS, I was attempting to do this using tftpd32 dhcp and PXE server built in functions...

What I want is some sort of file that will boot into a menu that will give me the option which ghost image to use... My company has several different pcs which we receive back from time to time and want to be able to just use the one boot file for all without having to change each time in tftp32..

our pcs are;

optiplex 320, 330
sx280
compaq pro and pro evo

would this be possible? if so can someone tell me how i would do this or point me to some sort of foolproof guide as I am completely new to this..

using win7pe you can make a wim file that boots from wds and allows you to load ghost you just need to start a session on the server

are you able to tell me how I would go about setting this up?

you use your existing dhcp from the server install wds which takes care of pxe then just add the wim file as a boot image

Do you have a Server with Windows Server 2003/08 installed? or are you doing what that reads and trying to do this from a WindowsXP OS rather than a Windows Server OS?

can you tell me how to install this win7pe as I can only find the source files for this, also can you point me to a foolproof guide on how to do this im completely new to this

@ Edutech, I am using windows xp pro as the server in this instance, I thought I could still do this by using tftpd32 which has a dhcp server built into it...I have already tested and it assigns an IP to the pc which I am trying to ghost, I just dont know where to point it to as a bootfile in order to get into ghostcast server, your help is much appreciated

Yeah i just wanted to check that's all, i know you can use Symantec Ghost and have the "server" so to speak have Windows XP Installed.

Have you looked at FOG? uses Linux and is Free ?

Pxe boot syslinux then you can have the menu you want.

but its xp pro i have installed on the server is there a program i can use to get into the ghostcast server, I need someone to show me how to do this...im cracking up

There is a guide on here by DMcoy on getting a ghost boot disk to pxe boot, then all you need to do is to run the ghostcast exe on your "server" or another machine and setup your session parameters.

Ignore the 2003 bit any dhcp server will do.

Nope, just a DHCP server (running from any operating system that support sending out other information as required which most do) to be residing on the network your using.
