Windows 7 Boot Problems after deploying with Imagex

Hello I am having a problem when deploying a system image I have created. I have installed, setup and sysprepped my windows 7 image. I create an image using Windows PE and ImageX. I deploy the image with ImageX. After deployment and the computer boots up for the first time, I get an error saying "Bootmgr is missing". I have solved this error by inserting a windows 7 dvd and using the startup repair utility. Windows 7 then starts normailly. This works great but I dont want to do this everytime I deploy the image and I dont really want to create a fresh image. Does anyone have any idea why its doing it and any ideas how I can fix my .wim? I hope I have explained this well.

Not really answering the question but have a look at WDS(Windows deployment servers) Will save you a shed of time imaging!

I use WDS aswell but I find using imageX a lot quicker in creating and deploying images.

Use mdt or run the command.
bcdboot c:\windows.

The imagex utility was never designed to be used like Ghost; it only creates an image of the file system and not an entire partition or disk. Because of this you're going to have to script the creation of the partition and boot setup before dumping your WIM. Really though, if you're not going to use WDS/MDT then you should look into Ghost or something similar that can create entire partition and disk images.

I would create the .wim again and review this.
Sysprep a Windows 7 Machine

And if you want to put it on usb.

Start Diskpart by typing diskpart from the command prompt

from the diskpart prompt, run the following commands:

list disk

select disk 2 (Assuming it's disk 2 that's identified as your USB drive in the previous step)

clean

create partition primary

select partition 1

active

format quick fs=ntfs

Once the USB key is bootable, either copy the contents of a Windows 7 CD to the drive, or extract the ISO (e.g. using 7Zip) to the USB Key
Under the sources directory, replace the install.wim file with your custom WIM file.

As already mentioned previously the best way to deploy images is with MDT and wds

I didn't mention that I already use diskpart to setup the disk. I didn't think it was important. I use this script:

SELECT DISK 0
CLEAN
CREATE PART PRI
SELECT PART 1
ACTIVE
ASSIGN
FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
EXIT

Does anyone know in depth what the Windows 7 startup repair utility does? I have tried looking on the net but found nothing.
