annoying time zone screen
I've managed tp get most things working with the data base option but I still get t6he time zone screen after the last reboot but before the applications are deployed.
I think I've got the setting correct i.e. SkipTImeZone=YES and TimeZoneName=GMT Standard Time.
I've tried it in the custom settings .ini, boot.ini and within the roles part of the data base and combinations of these but the screen still appears. There dos'nt appear to be an error log associated with the failure just the screen keeps appearing.
Any suggestion gratefully recieved as this is driving me mad.
Edit Forgot to say I am deploying win7 x86 with MDT 2012

12th June 2012, 12:00 PM #2 have you rebuilt the deployment share since you changed the setting? though i dont think yo need to with customsettings just bootstrap
the lines in mine are
SkipTimeZone=Yes
TimeZoneName=GMT Standard Time
but it was until 30 mins ago mdt2010 and is untested atm

12th June 2012, 12:19 PM #3 I'm also using MDT 2010 and my lines are:
SkipTimeZone=Yes
TimeZone=85
TimeZoneName=GMT Standard Time
Not sure if I needed the =85 part as its been a while since I set this up. I do think you need to rebuild after editting the customsettings.ini though, I tend to find I have to

12th June 2012, 12:28 PM #4 With MDT 2012 I have the following:
// Locale Settings
InputLocale=0809:00000809
UserLocale=en-gb
KeyboardLocale=en-gb;0809:00000809
KeyboardLocalePE=0809:00000809
// Timezone
SkipTimeZone=YES
TimeZone=085
TimeZoneName=GMT Standard Time
That sets the timezone and the keyboard and language settings to UK
Thats MDT 2012. You need to update the share after this.

12th June 2012, 12:48 PM #5 My customsettings.ini is:
Code:
[Settings]
Priority=Default
Properties=MyCustomProperty
[Default]
OSInstall=Y
SkipAppsOnUpgrade=YES
SkipCapture=YES
SkipAdminPassword=YES
SkipProductKey=YES
SkipDomainMembership=NO
JoinDomain=adomain
DomainAdmin=auser
DomainAdminDomain=adomain
DomainAdminPassword=apassword
MachineObjectOU= anOU
SkipLocaleSelection=YES
UILanguage=en-NZ
UserLocale=en-NZ
KeyboardLocale=0409:00000409
SkipTimeZone=YES
TimeZoneName=New Zealand Standard Time
SkipBitLocker=YES
SkipSummary=NO
This seems to work. At what stage are you getting the screen. If it is after the build is complete and you are in the Windows install then the issue may be in your image/task sequence.

12th June 2012, 04:31 PM #6 Well I've narrowed down the point of failure - it is all ok in the logs until the OS is loaded this is where it changes. All the logs upto this point have the correct time then they default to the Win7 default and I get the TimeZone screen.
So the question is where does it get the time zone info from here, the logs show the time zone being gathered ok but they are not being applied at this point and where do I go from here.
Thanks for the replies so far as they confirm I have got all the right information in the right places.
The only point that I am unsure of is the place to have these settings at the moment they are in the data base as part of the roles settings is this ok? everything else here is applying (except something annoying when deploying serif software but thats for another time, if you'll excuse the poor pun) so what am I doing wrong?

12th June 2012, 04:35 PM #7 Smells like the image may have been previously preped with the Windows image config tool that one uses with WDS to mess with seporate images. This shows up as an XML file somewhere in the image, others will be able to tell you more about where it is. I think that this is probably kicking in once the image has been applied.

12th June 2012, 04:35 PM #8 Are you using hte database to populate the timezone?
If you are note the order of priorities of your sections in the rules.ini

13th June 2012, 10:06 AM #10 I have only set the database to install apps depending on make and model. Been very selective about the rules I have applied! Just the MMApps section for me
