Access Denied When Attempting To Add New Install Image
Has anyone come across this before?
I have WDS setup and appears to be functional on Server 2008 R2, managed to add a boot image fine but when I come to add an install image it goes away and thinks about it for a minute then comes back with the not so helpful error of "Access Denied"
I have been googling for a while but haven't really found anything useful yet.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

i assume the user you are using has permissions to the remoteinstall folder?

yup, logged on as the domain administrator, checked the share permissions on the remoteinstall folder and even added the eceryone group with full access to make doubly sure still no joy

You've run through the Configure Wizard of the WDS server right?

Yeah went through the wizard at first setup, its completely baffling me

Anything in the Event Log under Applications and Services logs > Microsoft > Windows > Deployment-Services-Diagnostics

All NTFS permissions seem ok, again added everyone to it with full access rights, looked in the event logs for WDS and there is nothing in there other than clients managing to connect and download TFTP.

Can you got to the RemoteInstall folder and create files and subfolder?#
16th March 2011, 11:56 AM #12
Can you also check the permissions on the subfolders of the RemoteInstall folder. Not sure if you are using groups for your images? If so, check the folder which represents the group under the RemoteInstall folder. You will need Full Control permission on the actual Image Folder too.
I know you mentioned you are domain admin. Can you also add your account that you are logged on with to the local admin account and ensure this account has the permissions as above.

have you installed sp1 on teh server and the sp1 update for waik (if installed) as i believe that can cause issues but i cant remember if its issues if you do or dont install the waik update)

I can create files and folders in the remoteinstall folder when browsing to it through the network as well as the sub folder for the image group
I don't recall installing WAIK at all and the server hasn't had sp1 installed yet

Just thought I'd give you guys a quick update, managed to get it working. . . kinda. . . removed wds role from the server, rebooted the server, completely deleted the remoteinstall folder, re-ran wds wizard and got it all configured, added the boot image and the blank install image fine again, came to add my image again and got access denied! Oddly though the image added fine when I told it to create a new image group, very bizarre.
Thanks for all your suggestions though guys
