[SCCM 2007] moving sccm database to remote machine

Due to a series of misadventures i have had to move my sccm database to a remote machine (although not good practice i had to simply copy the database files and attach them to the new sql server).
I have tried to reconfigure the sccm site to use the new location but it can't access the sql db. I guess that this is a permission issue as although the user account that sccm uses has access rights for the db, the actual sql server only has local accounts configured with login rights.
I tried giving the sccm account login rights for the sql server but that didn't work. So what account do i need to add to make this work?

Mmm just read that the site server needs to have admin privileges over the sql machine. Will try that.

In the meantime, anyone think of anything else i should watch out for?

Add the machine account for the server accessing the remote db with full rights for one.
