    Prestaged names not being used

    I have now managed to get the unattended xml file to work, but the prestaged computer name is not being used. How do I tell the answer file to use the prestaged computer name?

    Thanks in advance.

    <ComputerName>%MACHINENAME%</ComputerName>

    In your imageunattend.xml, this attempts to get a prestaged name from Active Directory as far as I remember.

    I am guessing that this is not working because it is looking for the machine name after it has joined the domain... This appears to be the only place that Windows System Image manager will put this step though.

    Any ideas?

    Regards, Ed.

    I don't know if you've got this solved now (Quite an old thread!) but I ran across a similar issue today and saw this thread. It pointed me in the right direction so thanks!

    The problem is that you've put the the setting in the wrong pass. It needs to go in the Specialize pass under the "Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" section. I've posted an XML file which works for me:

    Code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <unattend xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:unattend">
        <settings pass="windowsPE">
            <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Setup" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
                <DiskConfiguration>
                    <Disk wcm:action="add">
                        <CreatePartitions>
                            <CreatePartition wcm:action="add">
                                <Order>1</Order>
                                <Type>Primary</Type>
                            </CreatePartition>
                        </CreatePartitions>
                        <ModifyPartitions>
                            <ModifyPartition wcm:action="add">
