You have to do a "Build and Capture" the image as the one pulled directly off the DVD installs to drive D: by default. Once you install, then capture the image using SCCM or MDT, you can then redploy that captured image and it'll do it the right way (to drive C.

I noticed this when i deployed a previously captured image.
I found the options in the Task Sequence for the task i use to Deploy a previously captured image.
It is located under the Apply Operating System task

Just out of interest i also found by default the task will do a full drive format, i changed the setting to only a quick format and changed the volume name from Default also

Not sure how relevant this is now but hope it helps

I really need to pay more attention to what is going on. Up on my blog pages, Ive posted my Build and Capture and also my Deployment sequences for my Laptops (including bitlocker). I know they go over what you need, but I dont have the problem you have been looking at.
Take a squizz and steal away :-)
Ive had a look through what youve said/done and I cant see why/how youve got the problem.
