    No image available ?

I'm new to WDS as i always use ghost but thought i'd give it a shot so i'm playing around.

Firstly, I'm using server 2003 and WDS to try and deploy XP images to laptops and desktops.

I followed a guide to setting up WDS here

I tried setting using a desktop machine and everything worked great. I'm now trying a laptop.

Here's what i've done so far.

Installed XP SP3 applied updates, installed applications etc
    Syspreped the image
Booted into PXE and captured the image and uploaded it to the WDS server
Booted another laptop (exact same model) into PXE and started the deployment process
Selected language and entered network UN & PW

I then get to a screen saying that there are now images available?

I have 2 images uploaded to the WDS server, these are organised into 2 different image groups. One called desktops and the other called laptops.

If i PXE boot the desktop I can see the desktop image and deploy it. i cannot however see the laptop image or select which group I want it to look for images.

On the laptop I can see no images at all.

At the WDS console it is showing the WDS server as online and both images are online.
I have set the security setting to full control for all usergroups.

    Anyone have any ideas?

What architecture are your boot images, image files and machines?

x86 Machines will only show x86 images
x64 machines will show both x86 and x64

I had enormous issues with some desktops not seeing wds images.

I now use MDT 2010 as well as WDS.

There all x86 - mainly celerons with some dual cores . . .

The laptops that wont see any images are the same make model etc

I created the image on a Toshiba L10 and then tried to restore it on an identical L10.
When I try to restore the image on either laptop I cannot see any images (of which there should be 2)
Both images show up as online in the WDS console

Going to try restarting the WDS service to see if that makes any difference tomorrow.

not done this myself ( other wds threads on here if you search ) stating that you have to check a checkbox or something along those lines where you have to select what architecture the images are intended for ie x86 and or x64 ??

I had some desktops that did exactly the same and never got them to see the images that were created for them.

I ended up using MDT 2010 on top of WDS which works well.

I am sure the problem was down to hal detection even though the machines were correct as were the images.

MDT looks like overkill just to deploy images ?

I'd like to get a system up and running where I can deploy XP via WDS and have any software deployed using group policy and MSI's

Currently I ghost all images with as many programs as possible and then install programs using ghost solution suite throughout the year when needed.

I was just looking at a all in M$ solution so would really like to get WDS working for all my images.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could try next??

Thing is with mdt it also does the deployment of your reference pc via the network and can customise that how you want.
