ok couple more questions...
I would like to add a second storage node, can i simply point fog to my 2nd machine and tell it to dump its images on the E:\ drive for example? this machine is running xp, do i have to install anything to do so?
The second machine will need to be running the fog nfs server so that the two machines can communicate. You will need to put linux on I think. I've not tried this yet but I think instructions are on the wiki. Look under Adding NFS node

if you create another storage node, but set the images folder to a folder that is mounted off your server.
you would need to setup a folder that mounts on boot
Just having a play with FOG, PXE boot doesnt bring up a menu option as it appears it should? get a boot prompt, typing fog.reg works.. but wheres the menu! tried typing just fog but that just saying loading for ages and then says failed!
hi folks, after wrestling with fog for annother week or so it is now up and running and now on a 1TB drive as opposed to the origional 40gb ( i was unable to image/clone it to the TB drive so had to reinstall from scratch...)
we have successfully used fog to gather and distribute images so its all good, however i do have one issue.
When trying to gather an image from a certain machine type (scl online machines with MSI MS-7507 motherboad) it will boot from pxe fine, but when it comes to loading the actual blue imaging screen, which shows your progress etc, it flashes up for a split second and then is gone again.
any ideas at all as to what could cause this and possible fixes?
cheers
Kev
Resolved...
despite it being a single disk with a single partition, choosing single disk multiple partition works..
Check the drive to see if it has a small recovery partition maybe?
it was completely formatted and a clean install of windows was put on, just one of those things i guess, im happy its working atleast
quick question...
Trying to get it to auto domain the machines, how on earth do you encrpyt the password for the password field?
Use this 'guide' it takes a bit of know how then its fine, however for the client the join the domain you must have on the image Windows XP Support Tools installed and you must leave the image on a workgroup not joined to a domain.

which guide?
on a seperate note, clamav refuses to work, im guessing its because it needs to check online for updates, but as im behind a proxy thats not very cooperative any ideas how to get round it?
Sorry forgot to add linky!

You have to use a little program called Fogcrypt, which is on the fog server.
My advice is to create a specific add2domain account for fog to use, and not to use the normal administrators account for this purpose, because everytime you change your administrators password you'll have to change all the passwords in fog, which can be a right pain in the backside when you've got several hundred machines in it!
