Any Gotchas When Ghosting W2K3 Server?

Just a quick question. I am in the preocess of setting up a new Domain. I have 2 new servers with identical specs. I have completed the install of W2K3 Server on one and updated etc and its all working fine as a standard PC.

If I ghost this to the second server do I need to do anything such as sysprep for XP? Or can I just rename the PC and continue from there?

    Cheers

You'll need to either sysprep it or run newsid after ghosting. I'd probably stick with sysprep to be honest.

IIRC, the only time Sysprep cannot be used is on a DC..
Other than that it should be fine to Sysprep and Ghost

Used to di this a fair bit when I worked for a training company that delivered MOC courses - That was fun trying to follow M$'s scripts to set up an entire domain..

If you dont have sysprep to hand you can jsut reset the SID with this:

    Code:
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Win dowsUpdate /v AccountDomainSid /f
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Win dowsUpdate /v PingID /f
    reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Win dowsUpdate /v SusClientId /f
    cls
@echo Triggering detection after resetting WSUS client identity
    net stop wuauserv
    net start wuauserv
    wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow

Um thats just for Windows update and won't reset the machine SID. I would be careful if the original is a DC otherwise a sysprep will be fine as cert services and AD both take a note of the drive identifier and other things that get very messy when imaged.

Domain hasn't been created yet, just getting W2K3 on them. Cheers for the input. Ghosted and syspred and all seems fine.

Can you actually ghost a server with the normal Ghost 11 client?

Unser deploy center (b4 gost solution suite) you has to use a server version?
