Thanks to everyone so far; I will keep bashing away at it. The WinPE boot disk creation wizard which comes with Ghost did indeed create a nice bootable USB stick, but that still won't play ball. (I think this time though it's the network rather than the hard disk.)

Ah well, another little project for next week, I guess!!

If you end up useing WDS with the free Windows AIK image it will give you a 32bit shell to run ghost from freely and the full range of driver support for Windows all the way up to Vista. If your clients support PXE it would also mean the end to requiring boot disks/sticks all together as it will boot of the network and offer you a nice 32bit network enabled Windows command prompt to play with.

  3. Thanks to SYNACK from:

We use BartPE with "snapshot" this works really well for us and is REALLY fast, build a machine over the network in about 5-6mins + config time of about 10-12mins

I find that if I can't see a hard drive with PE or Ghost I turn to PING (Partimage is Not Ghost) which is a free (beer) Linux ghost clone which seems to be able to detect a lot of different media.

IMO it seems to be a little slower than ghost (minutes though, not significant) but works just as well.

Hey all, I am trying to image/clone a set of 6735B laptops, and came across this forum while trying to figure how it was done. We have images of all of our other machines, but of course these are more difficult. I see the use of different switches and such, is there a tutorial on how and where to input these? we are using Ghost Console, and would like to not have to vist the machines once they are deployed

    Thank in advance!

Not long got FOG up and running (in a ubuntu VM (works great)) HP 7400 and 6735s work fine with FOG (yep another plug for it) as long as you change the bios settings for SATA....

scuppered on the 6715 tho BSOD on boot... I suspect its the SATA/IDE mode but theres no bios setting on these (on latest bios).

Yep, I have been rooting for FOG here. Does it deploy .gho files or just .img?

    Thanks,

found this not sure how much it helps

Using Windows Deployment Services with Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 | Symantec Connect

    Also this

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/arti...ostcast-server

When booting a PC-DOS boot disk, it hangs at "Loading PC-DOS...", a blank screen, or freezes after clicking "OK" on the Ghost welcome screen
Drives (SATA drives, USB drives, CD/DVD drives, etc) are not being detected Most commonly this is due to an IRQ conflict. To resolve this, either use Windows PE, or create your PC-DOS boot disk with the following switches:
    -FNI -FFX -NOIDE -NOUSB
Switches are to be added in the Parameters section of the boot wizard:
NOTE: LiveUpdates must be applied before the parameters field is useable.

We have several of these machines and I have been unable to Ghost them directly.

However I simply pop the hard drive into another HP machine (such as a 6715b) and Ghost from there.

Bit of a hassle, but it works well

I dont, all I do is input "-FNI -FFX -NOIDE -NOUSB" into the Parameters section when making the bootable USB Stick\CD and I can ghost like that, no need to take drive out etc
