    MDT don't capture my windows updates

    I build a virtuelt reference image, with all windows 7 updates installed on it.
    But when I capture the Image via MDT (BDD_autorun.wsf) and deploy the image again, there are no windows updates, and the newly deployed Image needs to spend another 3 hours updating.

    What i'm I missing here, do I do something wrong.?

    When you capture do you use the capture task sequence? Basically MDT is geared to do the os,updates and capture as one task sequence. However you can do it manually and use a capture only TS.

    Basically as free780 said... you should let your task sequence run as a whole. So let it install your OS + Updates + Any Custom Scripts + Applications + Updates + Any Custom Scripts and finally capture it (see attached screenshot of one of my TS's). When testing out my TS's I'll disable the updates as they take a long time and throw in a pause so I can manually check out what the scripts and application installs have done. What I'll also do is create my VM and point its OS build to the "\\DeploymentShare\Boot\LiteTouchPE_x86.iso" so it'll then boot straight to MDT's TS selection menu.

    Once you have it how you like run it one last time with all the updates and you should be able to let it build your reference image without touching it at all (fully automated).

    I assume once you capture it you are then importing the captured image and amending the task sequence to deploy the new OS?

    In short, I'm capture it this way.
    But I'm in a workgroup, so I don't get the same error.

    I will return later with screen dumb of my TS.

    Thanks for your help.

    Is your "regfix for browser choice" a fix to delete the icon on the desktop?
    @snagrat
    Yes, the Image I capture is the same I deploy. So all the updates should be on that Image when I deploy it, unless I'm doing something really wrong. I have only being doing mdt for a couple of months, so I'm still a newbie.

    Yes... the EU browser choice. I use the regex fix just incase that update gets deployed at a later date and I also tell MDT to ignore the update in my 'Rules' (see screenshot).

    Code:
    reg.exe add HKLM\Software\BrowserChoice /v Enable /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
    Code:
    ;Exclude EU Browser Choice
    WUMU_ExcludeKB1=976002
    EDIT

    I've very quickly skipped through that video and although it will work it looks like its going the long way round. I would personally create my own reference images by letting MDT automatically run through from start to finish without any user interaction required to capture it. Try searching for Johan Arwidmark tutorials, I think I found some awhile ago where he shows how to set it up... if not that try http://deploymentresearch.com/

    EDIT 2

    The path for the capture image is set in my 'Rules' as seen in the screenshot (ComputerBackupLocation=).

    At this very minut I'm trying to capture a new way (possible the right way...:P)
    Where I use a deploy TS and in the deploy wizard I tell to capture and give it a path for the capture.wim.
    Before, I would just deploy and in the deploy wizard I would ignore the capture part, and only deploy.

    Have to wait to see how it goes.
    @jaminben
    I can see that you have a OSDcomputername=REFERENCE
    How does that work.?
    I rename my computers each at a time after they are deployed.

    Thanks for all the help.

    edit: My new way of capture didt'n work. It's just deployed, but did not capture anything.

    But change the "rules" to SkipCapture=NO DoCapture=YES
    Trying again now, and see how it goes.

    You have to name it something but when you come to actually deploying the reference image you should be prompted to name the machine again so it shouldn't be a problem.

    capture error.PNG

    Still not working.

    The "add user" is my bad.

    But it still won't capture from a deploy TS.

    I have to look at it again tomorrow.

    Not seen that error before but just check through your customsettings.ini and make sure you've got no typos etc.

    Look like you've lost your network connection at some stage. Are you using a VM for capture?

    I don't get this!!!
    When I capture a reference computer that has all windows updates installed, shouldn't it also capture the updates.??
    When i deploy the captured image i have disable all windows updates in my TS, because its already installed on the reference/captures computer/image.
    But when I deploy my captured Image there are no updates on it, and I have to do the updates all over again.??!!

    This can't be right.??

    Can anyone please direct me to a wetsite/tutorial that people know works and is using them selfs.

    apparently I'm to stupid to getting this to work my self.!!
