    Angry MDT Application Support

    Hello,
So I've setup and configured WDS and MDT.
    I'm wanting to know a couple of things now;
    1) Is there a way of auto-inserting the serial number for products (such as Serif which doesn't pick up from KMS)
    2) Is there a way of automatically installing software without having to manually run through the .exe setups stage by stage?

Also, has anyone got any useful tips/tricks for MDT?
Like injecting Windows Updates for example; upon trying this, the installer failed!

    Thanks! :-)

1 and 2 depends on the software

if you can create a batchfile to silently deploy it then do that so for example \\server\share\program\install.exe /S

you could fire up a vm install the offending software (and may as well add windows updates) sysprep copy and add that to mdt so everytime you fire that image out it has $$$ software installed and registered (some software keys dont survive a sysprep)

it just depends on the software i tend to bake office into the image but add sophos using a script in the applications section

Hmmm, is there no easy way within MDT like how you would add the serial options for Office?

no but you can add a serial to office by running setup.exe /admin and filling in the screens, saving an msp file and deploy by \\server\office14$\setup.exe /adminfile \\server\office14$\mysettings.msp

but iirc you ned to do it as a batch file you cant just point it at the exe no

Okay, so for example, the Serif applications.
    If I run \\server\softwarelocation\movieplus\setup.exe /adminfile

Will that then save those setup properties in the same folder?
Or is it not quite that simple?

serif i have no idea /adminfile works on programs that support it msoffice does serif i honestly dont know. I do seem to recall their being a way to deploy serif codes but its has been a few years since i did it i believe they have some deployment tool or at least docs

office resoruce kit (or whatever its now called by running /admin) saves your msp file where you tell it to

This is for an older version of serif, but I'm sure the process is the same (if not very similar) for the latest versions:

I'll take a look at this - the netcopy one seems most useful, however it's not working at the moment, I'll look into it.
    Thanks!
