is there any OS or software updates?
any / all help appreciated.
We have 3 different VM Fog 0.32 servers, all running on Ubuntu 11.04 (using VMware workstation). Each have different images. They have all worked flawlessly for years. The last time I used one of them (successfully) was 2 days ago.
This morning I started one of the VM's to image a pc. The Ubuntu VM which hosts the Fog service starts and runs fine - but then after a varying amount of time (a few mins) it freezes. Obviously this halts any imaging!
I have tried the other 2 VM's (one of which hasn't been turned on for months) but they both experience exactly the same issue!!
These 3 VM's run on different physical machines, using different .vmx files and have all worked fine for years - what on earth is going on???
is there any OS or software updates?
There are Ubuntu updates, but this shouldn't be necessary. Why have all 3 suddenly started to freeze?
No idea, But when I'm troubleshooting i like to make sure everything is upto date before i start digging deeper..
Yes - sorry you are right.
I am just perplexed as to why 3 different machines with different versions of VMware workstation suddenly start to all show the same symptoms?
I may start using FOG for my home... I'm a bit of a "format monkey" as my friend calls me.. Format once a month. This could save me some time. Plus i do a lot of family fixes which also could help. How much ram do you give FOG?
Well I have ended up creating a new Ubuntu VM (12.10) and re-installing FOG on that.
Touch wood - all seems OK on this.
It is still annoying me why the other VM's are suddenly all crashing, but hey-ho - I suppose we cant always get to the bottom of everything!
Iim making my own FOG server today in a VM. Fingers crossed it all goes well..
PS, Have you tried kicking the machine to see if that works? :P
I haven't tried kicking them, but I have sworn at them a lot!
If you have any problems installing FOG, just ask - it is all still fresh in my memory
The main issues I encountered were with our proxy and getting FOG to download and install certain packages (MySQL, php etc) I had to do each manually.
Just a quick one @Bertie_Dellend , Iv installed FOG i can get onto the control panel etc. Iv installed it on a client machine and put in the IP etc.. But its not coming up on the FOG panel that the PC is there?
I don't think the fog server automatically picks up the fog client.
I have always manually created the clients on the server either through the web admin or through the pxe boot screen - "full host registration" (or whatever it says).
Another one for yall
Anyone get a blank page with Task Management at the top with nothing else there?
Im trying to capture a image with the panel but i get that? Or am i doing it wrong again?

I had this too - below worked
Newer versions of PHP no longer accept function calls with arguments explicitly passed by reference. It's been deprecated for several releases of PHP, but still worked. It does not work anymore. The function definition must specify whether the argument is passed by value or by reference, and the function call just needs to specify the variable name or value without the &
gksu gedit /var/www/fog/management/includes/tasks.confirm.include.php
Search Menu > Replace
Search for: &$tmp
Replace with: $tmp
Replace All (there were somewhere around twenty instances)
Then try to schedule your upload task again.
