NFS: problems sharing
I'm having some trouble sharing with NFS.
I have an ubuntu box serving out audio files that need to be accessed on another box, also running ubuntu. I have set up the directory to be shared in /etc/exports on the host box and set up the mount point to be mounted as the NFS "share" from the other box.
All works OK - you can view all of the files from the host on the other box but as soon as you try to access or create any files the thing just hangs. Attempts to start copying ("0.0 of 20MB copied so far" etc) but does nothing. You can still browse through the files on the share but just cannot access anything. Have checked permissions and all seems ok, perhaps someone could point me in the right direction?
Check your log files, any clues there?
Any reason why you're using nfs and not samba?
Ubuntu has samba support built in, just right click the folder and select sharing

You don't need to have a domain to tie into. It will just run samba server in the local machine, which takes next to no resources.
granted you can't share a home partition between machine though.
Inter-machine authentication is messy without a domain though.
Thanks for all of the suggestions and apologies for the slow reply - only way around it (I had reached my maximum talent level) was to reinstall both machines. They were only 'vanilla' ubuntu jaunty installs so it was fairly simple.
The reason I went for NFS over Samba was how forehead-slappingly simple it was to set up the first time I used it. Export the directory from one machine, mount it on the other, it's just done. This time is just seemed to completely screw the client machine up.
However, you'll all be pleased to know that all now seems OK after a reinstall.
