Time sell PCs with Linspire preinstalled
Yes the brand that won't die now sells PCs with Linspire Linux preinstalled.
It's only on the midrange AMD 64-bit but there is an option to pay an extra 40 quid for Windows XP Home Edition.
I guess after annoying a lot of people on planet FLOSS Linspire needs all the friends it can get, however financially secure ;)
Re: Time sell PCs with Linspire preinstalled
Oh Dear, more troubles for poor IT people!
Home user - I bought a new Time.com PC and it has "windows" on it but it looks nothing like I have ever seen before and doesnt work like I thought it would.
IT Pro - Is its Windows or Lindows?
Home User - uuummm eeer its Linspire
IT Pro (ok I got its name wrong, it comes with being old and remembering Lindows) well it wont be quite as you expected....
You get the picture, but all I can say is TIME YOU SHOULD HAVE DIED LONG AGO!
Re: Time sell PCs with Linspire preinstalled
Nah, they'll just get a pirate copy of Windows installed.

I don't agree. I've installed loads of *nix systems for windows users (non corporate), provided they understand that rather than buying software from PC world, all they need to do is use synaptic - everything has worked out fine. Minor issues when upgrading from dialup to broadband (alcatel support). The apearance differences of windows/linux is overrated.
Re: Time sell PCs with Linspire preinstalled
That's very true. I've notice it's harder for technical minded people like ourselves to swap from Windows to Linux than it is for 'Average Joe User'.
There is in particular one long suffering techie at one of the schools I work at who has been trying to get his head round Linux for a while now. Initial attempts failed miserably as he tried to do things with Linux the same way as he would with Windows. He's getting the hang of it now though after a little tuition. :)
