Jackalope gets jaunty with Ubuntu nip and tuck • The Register

Looks a lot more promising than 8.10.
well if KUbuntu recognises my wireless drivers, I will be a happy man!
Couldn't help myself, upgraded my 8.10 to the RC and wow what a difference, login screen in under a minute from cold boot.
Not sure about the darkness of the theme so reverted to clearlooks, virtualbox intrepid pkg has been badged to work (and does) with jaunty so that's pleasing.
Everything seems nice at the moment :)
I've been running it since the alpha and loving it. The more I use it, the more I hate the thought of going back to Windows. (It was windows 7 being more of the same that drove me to Ubuntu in the first place).
I'd recommend Jaunty to anyone - the more I use it, the more nice little features I find and the more I love it.
In what way?
I've installed it and apart from a different wallpaper the machine looks exactly the same as the 8.10 machine I've been using for the past 6 months (except I can't get MythTV to show me TV pictures!)
Not really a criticism; 8.10 basically worked and I'd hope 9.04 would also work so I'm wondering what's more promising about it?
Lets hope they fixed it so Xorg doesnt bomb out after installation if you have 2 gfx cards leaving you at the console with no GUI because you have to go into the config and tell it what adapter to use!
I think a broken X install is tradition with Ubuntu upgrades, it just wouldn't be the same without it.
Yes, I was (and from reading reviews others were) disappointed with 8.10 in terms of stability and all in together bloat. I've found the speed of 9.04 stunning, I'm at a desktop in around a minute from cold boot and on a brand new laptop every single piece of hardware worked, and it's all just "there".
Shutting down is next to no time at all now; no more watching the progress indicator it's gone before I can see it now.
I've not spent enough time with it yet to understand whether I can move away from Gentoo to it but for ease and simplicity it just works.
Netbook version still incompatible with my 2133 :(
im looking forward to playing with this. Its not LTS though, so not expecting the stability of 8,04. Im going to try Mythbuntu on my Media PC though
