Hehe, made the same mistake on mum's Kubuntu installation trying to go from breezy => dapper - wouldn't have it. I ended up re-installing, but it was a problem with X that I had.
Hope you manage to get it sorted :)
phew, its working.
The upgrade decided to take-out the networking.
apt-get update -f fixed it after some messing around.
I gotta learn to think these things through a bit before I hit that [Enter] key !
Hehe, I also know the pain of rebooting via ssh and finding it doesnt come back up, or worse, uninstalling the network driver / bringing the interface down / killing the dhcpcd :)
