GRUB ERROR 16
work machine got problem?
I was using my Ubuntu machine fine yesterday but today I boot up and grub behaves as normal but when it attempts to boot from my os it said
"Error selected cylinder range is beyond BIOS supported range"
I havn't changed anything
I rebooted and this time all i get is GRUB ERROR 16
any help appreciated
(i suspect HDD failure)
Need more info, is the Ubuntu install on its own or is it part of a multiboot set up?
Did you do anything out of the ordinary on it yesterday before the failure?
its on its own and i havn't done anything to it
I suspect hdd failure or prob as it was cheap
A Grub Stage 2 Error 16 usually means your kernel image is missing.
Have you tried using the Super Grub disk to either repair the grub install or manually find the right drive to mount?
Is it a multi boot system or a system installed with Wubi at all?
Super Grub disk is on the ultimate boot cd or you can download from their site.
when i boot from live cd it either cant find the hdd or it crashes so i think the hdd has failed
