    The Java development environment is meant to be rather good though - also free.

    Of more use to us in education is StarOffice 8 - OpenOffice.org 2 with extra bits (such as fonts that are more like Office ones, etc.)

    You can still download that lot for free from Sun anyway can't you? My understanding was that the only thing you pay for with Star Office was the telephone support

    I thought with Star you paid for the media pack then could install it on what you wanted?

    I honestly don't know, thats why I asked. I've never bought StarOffice.

    You can just download StarOffice from the Sun website after you agree to the Ts & Cs. Search for 'education staroffice download' or something similar and you'll soon find it. My avg. download speed was 1200 KB/s!
