worked for me, Wine is Genuine Microsoft Software !
1. Install IE6
This is simple, just go to the IE4Linux site and follow the instructions for your distro. Installing IE6 is sufficient. There's no need to install IE5 or IE5.5 too.
2. Setup IE and verify it works
IE6 should be setup now. You can verify this by clicking the shortcut on the desktop the IE4Linux script created or you can run '~/bin/ie6'.
Assuming it loads ok, set any preferences you need, eg Proxy settings.
One this is done you should be able to browse the internet with IE6 just as easily as if you were using a Windows PC.
3. Validate your Linux Installation
For the purposes of this howto, we'll try and validate our installation by attempting to download 'Windows Defender' from Microsoft.
- First go to the download page for it here.
- click the 'continue' button
- The site will attempt to download the ActiveX control. This will Fail. However it's ok. ActiveX is disabled under Wine (It's a security feature).
- Proceed with the 'alternate' validation method. By clicking the link at the bottom of the page.
- Click 'Continue' to download the Validation tool. Then click 'Open' when IE prompts you.
- The validation tool will run and provide a code. Copy and paste this into the entry box on the website. Click the validate button.
Congratulations. You now have a valid copy of Microsoft Linux!
