    X display problem

I have an Nvidia Quadro4 graphics card running 2 NEC MultiSync 2080UX+ TFT displays.

I need to run the displays at 1600x1200 however the bloody machine keeps running them at 1024x768 (somewhat lower!!!).

I'm using Debian Etch and my xorg.conf follows:
    Code:
    Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier "Default Layout"
        Screen "Screen0" 0 0
        InputDevice "Generic Keyboard"
        InputDevice "Configured Mouse"
    EndSection

I can see the problem - something about modes but I cannot find a fix

The resolution is really doing my head in... everything is HUGE!

    Re: X display problem

You need to generate the correct mode lines for your monitor. Do you have your monitor specs handy? If you do, use an online modeline generator.

    Done it for you:

    Code:
    Modeline "1600x1200@60" 176.70 1600 1632 2296 2328 1200 1224 1236 1261

@Geoff: Thanks but I already tried that with no effect... log messages are unchanged too.

    Re: X display problem

Ok, you've done something wrong then. Did you change both the Screen and Monitor sections?

    Re: X display problem

I have also tried the interlaced modeline...
    Code:
    Modeline "1600x1200@60i" 73.52 1600 1632 1904 1936 1200 1227 1233 1261 interlace

interlacing an LCD monitor is nonsensical.

    Re: X display problem

I know that interlacing an LCD is nonsensical but I just want to get the resolution to work!

X won't accept the Modeline in the Screen section... this could be a problem.

    Re: X display problem

Right had another go, using the Quadro4 dotclock:

    Code:
    Modeline "1600x1200@60" 176.70 1600 1632 2296 2328 1200 1224 1236 1261
Sorry, I didn't mean the screen section. I meant you need to use the 'UseModes' option in the monitor section to specify which modes are available for the screen (you can just specify 1600x1200@60 and force the issue if you like.

    Re: X display problem

I seem to have got slightly closer, following the discovery of the 'NVIDIA X Server Settings' graphical configuration tool. I now have the panels set to 1280x1024 which is significantly better but not perfect.

From the command line, I can see that the GPU is reading the monitor information correctly... however the GUI tool says the native resolution is only 1280x1024. This is a bit odd!

    Re: X display problem

Your monitor can only do 1600x1200 at 60Hz. If your using any other refresh rate the maximum is 1280x1024 as you've observed.
