Browsing CUPS printer share not working by hostname

I am trying to browse my CUPS printer share with the normal \\hostname format but it just keeps throwing up a password authentication box and no username or password combo works however......

If i do \\192.168.0.8 it lets me in unchallenged. The hostname resolves to the correct IP etc. I have also tried the FQDN with no joy.

    Any ideas?

I'd check the samba log files. If there's nothing obvious then turn up the debugging level and look again.

Also do the normal checks with wbinfo and net commands.

Re: Browsing CUPS printer share not working by hostname

It's because Kerberos only works on hosts in your dns domain. If you access by IP it has no idea what that is. Thus falls back to RPC.

    Install an NTP server.
