    Re: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn released

    Anyone know if the new wireless setup is still problematic - I put it on my PC which always just works with the onboard wireless, with the beta of 7.04 I can't get it to work at all

    I've had problems with wireless too. It detects my onboard wireless (which is an old b style). However, although it detects and uses my 3com pcmcia card - it then proceeds to 'drop' the card every time it boots up, and happily forgets that I've disabled the onboard wireless!

    I completed a seamlessly uneventful upgrade on my laptop (P3 450mhz xubuntu) this morning. no issues, wireless is fine. theres even an 'update distribution' button for edgy>feisty.

    vmware broke on my kbuntu upgrade. It's just the kernel modules though so I can work it out. A job for Monday.

    from memory you need to do
    Code:
      sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`
    then re-run vmware-config.pl

    Yes I know. The compilation of the modules fails when I run vmware-config.pl. I've also tried apt-getting 'vmware-server-kernel-modules' and insmoding them manually without success.

    Re: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn released

    Try this

    Worked for me

    Step 1 (Installing the modules from repository)
    $ sudo apt-get install vmware-server-kernel-modules

    Step 2 (Installing VMware Server)
    $ tar -xzf VMware-server-1.0.1-29996.tar.gz
    $ cd vmware-server-distrib/
    $ ./vmware-install.pl

    Step 3 (Make VMware Server Daemon work with Feisty modules)
    $ sudo sed -i -e "s/\/sbin\/insmod -s -f \"\/lib\/modules\/\`uname -r\`\/misc\/\$1.o\"/modprobe -s -f \$1/" /etc/init.d/vmware

    Step 4 (Make the configure script ignore the configure of a new module)
    $ sudo sed -i -e "s/sub configure_module {/sub configure_module {\n return 'yes';/" /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl

    Step 5 (Reconfigure)
    $ sudo vmware-config.pl

    Step 6(Restarting the application)
    $ sudo /etc/init.d/vmware restart

    Mmm, I appear to be up and running despite the ndis installation not going smoothly. However, and I don't know if anyone else suffers with this; my wireless connection randomly drops, but reconnects almost immediately.

    Otherwise, things are running smooth, fine and all happy
