I'm having a look at setting up a censornet server but I can't get it to authenticate anyone. I've checked the ip settings and server and domain names in user authentication settings and they are all correct. The error I get is "login authorisation failed"
Has anyone come accross this before?
I'm using AD authentication, and censornet v 3.3r6.
Help please

Have you sucessfully imported the users?
Have you checked your time is synched close enough to your ad time (date from the prompt )?
Try "wbinfo -u" from the console that should return a list of your domain users.

I have got all the users on the system ok, the time is the same.
wbinfo -u brings back "error looking up domain users"

Try retrieving a list of users again and look through those settings. It sounds like something has changed somewhere.

I've removed all users and re-imported them but after the wbinfo -u command I still get the same error message.

Hmm... Is your administrator user in the default users container?

yes, i'm really confused, i managed to install it with no problems about 4 months ago on a test box, but it didn't have enough RAM to use it for 750 users. I finally got a decent spec PC but it won't work.
grrr.....

I've looked at the documentation on the censornet site, it shows a complete different setup screen on it. I'm guessing it's from an earlier version. In the authentication screen on the documentation it shows a place to put your username and password, but this doesn't exist on my version of censornet.

I know this might be the most obvious but you have chosen to auth against AD and not something else?

double checked, yep, authenticate against AD.

Try using NT auth it should work and seems to be less hassle than AD auth with this version of CN.

I've set it up to auth through NT and it seems fine for now.
Any more problems i'll let you know.
Thanks both of you.

Hi, I too just converted from Websense to Censornet 3.3r6, same error, there is no username/pass field on this version. I use AD 2003 Ent, Forest 2003. can you assist me with AD authentication with the NT selection, do i need credentials there?

16th December 2009, 05:07 PM #14 If i remember rightly, you will need to put in an administrators account in the NT authentication for it to talk to the AD server.
Sorry I can't help any more, we have moved from censornet to ipcop.

Have you contacted Adelix/Censornet direct? They support their product.
The old Censornet forum is still up: forum.censornet.com :: Index
The also have a live chat running during the day: Customer Support Messenger
They are a good bunch of guys. We used to work closely with them back in the day of Censornet 2. It's a good product that doesn't get much mention here.
