Link: Ubuntu Women - Home
Ubuntu-Women is a team functioning under Ubuntu to provide a platform and encouragement for women to contribute to Ubuntu-Linux, a Debian based free and open-source GNU/Linux software. Our main role will be along the lines of supplementing and being the stepping stone toward the larger Ubuntu-Linux world. Membership is open to
all.
An EC funded study (2006) summarized in the Flosspols report, indicates that about 1.5% of FLOSS community members were female, compared with 28% in proprietary software. The Ubuntu Census Survey (June 2006) also reflects a similar female ratio with 2.4% women actively volunteering in the Ubuntu community.
Ubuntu-Women is the first step in trying to usher in change by increasing the visibility and contribution of women by providing mentoring and role models, and creating opportunities for collaboration with new and existing Ubuntu volunteers.

10th July 2010, 07:20 PM #2 This sounds like the equivalent of the Debian Women group, aimed to get more women contributing (not necessarily using). They don't have patronising wallpaper AFAIK, though.

Right then, time for Geezerbuntu, maybe a fork to Blokebuntu. Wallpaper, anybody?
It's not a fork, it's just a development team...

10th July 2010, 08:16 PM #4 Patronising and pointless:
The reason that women do not contribute to the Ubuntu forums is that they are far too busy cooking, cleaning, washing and doing all the childcare

10th July 2010, 10:06 PM #6 It's not just the forums, they are undertaking normal development tasks like toolchain maintenance, packaging, documentation, translation, etc... The Debian equivalent has been very successful at ensuring women in the project have a voice, but unfortunately for the Ubuntu effort they're rather undermined by this branding nonsense.

13th July 2010, 08:52 AM #9 Oh dear.....like others have said Debian have a really nice group for women(Debian Women), so does KDE(KDE Women - KDE Community Wiki), and LinuxChix(LinuxChix | Be Polite. Be Helpful.) is a nice place to learn and hang-out as well and has an awesome logo.....none of those have a 'special' wallpaper, flowers? Burgh.....what is this the 1940's? and what the hell is that ubuntu logo doing with the female symbol merged into it.....bad idea.

13th July 2010, 09:06 AM #10 Well, personally I think you all need to shut up and get the in the kitchen. I'm hungry!
This is a joke meant in jest by the way. Please take it that way. I wouldn't dare speak to any of you like that - I only speak like that to the wife.
That was another joke meant to be taken in a light hearted way.

Well, why then have I had to do it all for the last 30 odd years?

Yes, and it reinforces my point.
